12-Volt Litheon Batteries for Long-Lasting Power
The PS40-2A gets its power from Litheon batteries, the most advanced lithium-ion batteries available today. These batteries allow more battery charges and provide longer runtime with no memory effect--meaning the batteries don't need to be empty before charging. The batteries can also be taken out of the charger before charging is complete.

Other benefits include: significantly less self discharge; electronic cell protection that guards against overheating, overload, and deep discharge; and no loss of power from the first to last screw or hole. Best of all, these batteries will fully charge in 30 minutes and will be at 85% capacity in just 15 minutes.

Compact, Lightweight Design for Efficient, Fatigue-Free Work
The PS40-2A features an innovative driver designed with a compact and light housing and superior performance. Measuring only 6.5 inches in length and weighing just 2.2 pounds, it performs up to 80% of all impact-driver applications. And because it easily drives screws without the need for pushing, the tool will help prevent you from becoming overly tired on the job.

Built for a Wide Range of Heavy-Duty, Professional Applications
Ideal for driving and tightening metal bolts, screwing wood up to three inches thick, drilling wood up to 3/8 inch thick, and drilling sheet metal with a maximum thickness of 5/16 inch, the PS40-2A offers impressive range. You can drive fasteners into wood and concrete and enjoy the anti-shock protection provided by the Heat Shield. With this handy tool you can also drive fasteners into sheet metal, tighten nuts and bolts, complete a range of automotive repair jobs, install a garage door, build a deck, tackle plumbing issues, complete interior and exterior steel framing jobs, and much more.

Hammer-and-Anvil System for 800 In./Lbs. of Torque
The PS40-2A comes equipped with a Bosch-designed hammer-and-anvil system, which produces double the torque of a gear-driven system. The PS40-2A provides a truly impressive 800 in./lbs. torque--up to 300% more than other drills/drivers--giving you the necessary power to drive or remove lag screws. At the same time, the innovative design of this mechanism ensures that torque is not transferred to your hand, resulting in improved control and a lower risk of wrist injury, even during your toughest jobs.

Up to 3,000 BPM for Quick Fastening
The PS40-2A also delivers 1,800 RPM/3,000 BPM, so you can power through drilling and fastening jobs both big and small. And you can enjoy all this power without having to carry around a big, bulky tool. Thanks to its two-layer planetary gear, the tool's diameter shrinks to a truly compact size.

Sealed Internal Components Prevent Oil Leakage
To help keep operation smooth and trouble-free, the gearbox's internal components are sealed by aluminum housing and plastic rear housing to prevent oil leakage. This design also maintains optimum lubrication for longer life. For peace of mind, a rubber shock absorber behind the impact mechanism helps minimize vibrations and increases the stability of the gearbox if it's dropped, even from 6.5-feet.

Smart Features for Easy Operation
A unique LED Light Ring with three lights provides ample illumination in tight or enclosed spaces. The LED also offers a pre-light to brighten your workspace when you pull the trigger. Additionally, anti-slip rubber bumpers on the tool body prevent slipping and damage.

Finally, a forward/reverse switch is conveniently placed for both right- and left-handed users and is accessible by even petite hands.

ProVantage Guarantee
The PS40-2A comes with the ProVantage three-year protection plan, which guarantees two years of battery protection and one year of tool protection. Under this plan, you can receive two years of free battery replacements, tool replacement for one year, and a free tool repair package for the second and third years.

Most manufacturers seem to be using li-ion battery technology to create lighter versions of existing cordless tools, or high-voltage tools that would have been too heavy for use with older battery technologies. Bosch however, seems to have also used the opportunities presented by lithium ion to dream up tools that have never even existed. Last year, they scored big hits with the PS-20 Pocket Driver and I-driver, which redefined ideas about drills and screwdrivers at the same time. This year, they've extended that out-of-the-box thinking to impact drivers, with the Litheon "Impactor", and it is another jaw-dropper. Impact drivers are smaller and lighter than cordless drills, but because they have a simple hammering function and are geared specifically to spin fast, they produce about three times the torque of a drill. This means an impact driver will put in screws, bolts, and other fasteners much faster than a drill would. They can drill holes, too. What they won't do is drill holes bigger than 1/2 inch, but they'll handle just about any job a homeowner or contractor would do around the house. In size and feel, the Impactor is very much like the Pocket Driver. It's small and light enough to fit into a drawer. Hitched to your belt, you could carry it around all day and barely notice the weight, although it looks so cool, you're definitely going to want to keep taking it out. With the three LED lights on the front, Bosch has not only made sure this thing doubles practically as a spare flashlight, they've really solidified the space-age ray gun look, making the Impactor pretty hard not to pull it out just to play with. With the hammer action on top of the respectable 12 volts Max of power however, this can do even more than the Pocket Driver could. We used it to drive screws through sheet metal and 3/8-inch bolts into pine. It wasn't as fast as 14.4- or 18-volt models, but it got the job done well enough to make this a truly all-purpose tool.
